An Historic Win
Yesterday, Cunningham Township voters made history by passing Cunningham Township Question 1, calling on the U.S. to end all military aid to Israel. With 70.09% voting yes and 29.91% voting no, this decisive victory reflects the will of the people: our community demands an end to the funding of this genocide.
For the first time in history, voters had a direct say on the billions of taxpayer dollars our government sends to support Israel’s apartheid regime, and the message couldn’t be clearer. Though this is a non-binding referendum, it sends a powerful message to our government and the rest of the world: we will not allow our tax dollars to continue to support genocide.
This victory belongs to everyone who made it possible. Thank you to everyone who put in the hard work to get this referendum passed. To the dedicated canvassers who went door-to-door, to everyone who helped get this question on the ballot back in April, and to every single person who showed up and voted YES: thank you. Together, we’ve shown the power of collective action, and that Urbana stands firmly on the side of justice.
This is just the beginning, and we’re so grateful to have you with us as we continue the fight for a free Palestine.
